It’s Common Sense to Drive a Car with Honda Sensing™

Mom always told you to have a good balance of street smarts and book smarts. Understanding data while also having the ability to make wide decisions is critical to becoming a well-adjusted adult. It just so happens that those same traits are the crux of modern Honda technology, too. Car shopper, meet Honda Sensing™, the industry’s premier suite of safety features.

Honda Sensing

All Honda drivers here in the Columbus area and across the country benefit from Honda Sensing™ and its suite of passive safety and driver-assist features, including the following:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™
A radar unit and monocular camera scan forward traffic conditions. When the system determines a collision is possible with a detected vehicle, the integrated Forward Collision Warning system’s visual and audible alerts prompt the driver to take corrective actions. If the situation is not resolved, CMBS can apply different levels of autonomous braking action to help reduce vehicle speed and eventual collision forces, and therefore to help reduce the severity of a collision if the driver doesn’t take corrective action on his own.
  • Forward Collision Warning (integrated with CMBS)
Forward Collision Warning uses the monocular camera to detect vehicles ahead and to determine whether a collision is likely. This reduces the stress of driving in traffic, while also contributing to an increased level of passive safety. If the system detects a vehicle and determines that a collision may occur (due to a speed differential between the two vehicles), it will trigger visual and audible alerts for the driver.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
This technology provides a less-stressful driving experience by reducing the need for steering correction movements and driving effort on the highway. LKAS uses a camera to read lane markings and uses the Electric Power Steering to assist the driver in maintaining the vehicle’s position within the lane.
  • Road Departure Mitigation
Integrating Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation uses a monocular camera to identify lane features and identifies the lane. If Road Departure Mitigation determines the vehicle is about to leave a detected lane, it will provide steering assist (primary) and braking assist (in rare occasions when steering assist is not sufficient to avoid leaving a lane marked by a solid line) to help the driver stay on the road.
  • Lane Departure Warning (integrated with RDM)
Lane Departure Warning is designed to alert the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane without the turn signal being activated. The system functions at speeds from 45 to 90 mph on straight or slightly curved roads, alerting the driver of deviations from a detected lane.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
Adaptive Cruise Control allows the driver to set the desired speed and the following interval from a vehicle detected ahead, allowing the use of cruise control in light traffic conditions. This significantly reduces the driver stress of driving in traffic. Low-Speed Follow extends the automatic following capability to stop-and-go traffic situations (down to 0 mph).

More Honda Safety Technology at Your Fingertips

In addition to Honda Sensing, most new Honda vehicles sold by our Central Ohio Honda Dealers come with the following standard or optional safety features:

  • Honda LaneWatch™

Switching on your right-turn signal will shoot live video feed right to your Honda’s central display, offering 4 times more visibility of your blind-spot than a typical passenger mirror. Most 2017 and 2018 Honda vehicles come with LaneWatch, so be sure to speak with our Honda dealers near Columbus before choosing your next car.

  • Blind Spot Information System

Ditch the bulbous, stick-on blind-spot mirrors! With Honda’s Blind Spot Information System, changing lanes is a breeze. Flip the turn signal and you’ll instantly see an indicator light in your side-view mirrors if there is another vehicle in your way. An audible beep will also sound off until you’re clear to move into another lane.

  • Cross Traffic Monitor

Cross Traffic Monitor is available on select new Honda vehicles. When reversing out of parking spots or the driveway, your Multi-Angle Rearview Camera will detect approaching vehicles and pedestrians, and notify you with a series of beeps. It’s a great feature to help you avoid low-impact collisions that may force you to visit a local collision center.

  • Auto High-Beam Headlights

Many new 2017 and 2018 Hondas feature these Auto High-Beam Headlights, which illuminate the streets without the need to do much more than clicking a lever over. When driving at night over 25 mph, your Honda will automatically detect its surroundings and adjust its high-beam lights to give you the best visibility.

The future is now, and these incredible Honda safety features are at the forefront of innovation. Although such tech doesn’t completely remove human errors from the equation, they are a way to help us get to our destinations with confidence. Honda Sensing™ is common sense personified, and its features are available on select 2017 and 2018 Honda models, such as the Accord, Civic, CR-V, Pilot, and 2018 Odyssey.
